Cosmo Pyke

About

Combining sounds from indie, jazz, and blues mixed with elements of hip hop, South Londoner Cosmo Pyke is a multi-disciplinary whiz – a skilled singer, poet, rapper, instrumentalist and artist who is quick to capture your attention within moments of a play of his genre-blending musical creations.

The twenty-something spins eloquent but relatable tales of Gen Z life, intertwined with references from art, literature and musical history. Cosmo is an old soul. He grew up listening to the likes of Bob Marley, Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, and The Beatles. His lyrical dexterity smacks of a vocabulary well beyond his years, with captivating wordplay that draws you into his stories layered with irresistible grooves and rhythms, and pulls in the best traits of esteemed performers across the spectrum of aforementioned genres.

In late 2021, Cosmo was invited to the Brodie Sessions in Denmark, resulting in a stunning acoustic set with dreamy audio-visual production, showcasing the best of this artist’s talent. In November 2022, three tracks from the session – ‘A Piper For Janet’, ‘Railroad Tracks’ and ‘Seasick’ – are released as the Brodie Sessions (Live EP) two years after the title track from its predecessor EP.

Ushering in a new chapter in late 2020, Cosmo released ‘A Piper For Janet’ to introduce the EP of the same name through his own label, Pykrete Records. The story around ‘Pykrete’ is a brilliant one – we’ll leave you to look up The Unknown Genius book… ‘Piper’ is a reference to artist John Piper; Janet is Cosmo’s beloved late grandmother. The EP was written over a few years while Cosmo was touring across South America and Asia, building his dedicated international fanbase.

A student of The Brit School, he follows famous singer-songwriter alumni Adele, Amy Winehouse, Loyle Carner, and more. His 2017 debut EP Just Cosmo was released in collaboration with renowned producer Fraser T. Smith’s (Easy Life, Kano, Stormzy) 70Hz Recordings, and saw Cosmo tipped by numerous tastemakers.
