About
Indie supergroup Y have burst onto the scene earlier this year as one of the most exciting bands coming up through the South London scene with their wonderfully weird and wonky sound. The supergroup is made up of members from or involved with Fat White Family, Meatraffle, Pregoblin, Scud FM.
Y is a genre-defying band founded by Adam Brennan (Fat White Family) and Sophie Coppin during a period of isolation. The duo discovered an uncanny synergy in their music-making, blending shared tastes with contrasting stylistic approaches. This paradox birthed the eclectic, unpredictable sound that defines Y—playfully described as “wonk rock,” “Gameboy thrash,” and even “Egyptian wedding music.”
Y has been incredibly well received so far in 2025, they were on the first announcement for countless tastemaker events, including Left of The Dial, a real tastemaker in their space. UK tastemakers are equally loving it with features in NME, DORK and DIY and the band were positioned no.9 in Spotify’s Hot New Bands playlist, plus the king of new music ‘Steve Lamaq’ said it was “one of [his] favourite things [he’s] seen over the past couple of days” when he was fortunate enough to make into their packed The Great Escape show.
They will be back with new music in September, in the build up to EP 2.
