Ladan

About

‘Light for the Midnight’ will be the first release under Ladan’s birth name (pronounced Luh-thun). Previously Ladan worked under Cold Specks / Al Spx. Work started on the album in 2019, and it marks an intense journey for Ladan, taking place around a particularly difficult period in her life around her mental health, resulting in psychosis and hospitalisation. The album is not traumatic, it is triumphant and records a life lived, with difficulties overcome.

The album was recorded in Toronto and Bristol and produced by Ladan, Adrian Utley (of Portishead) and Ali Chant. The album includes string arrangements by Owen Pallet and recorded in-part by Graham Walsh (of Holy Fuck). Ladan co-wrote tracks with Chantal Kreviazuk (Drake / Kendrick Lamar), Malcolm Middleton (of Arab Strap), Ben Christophers, Ed Harcourt and Jonathan Quarmby.
